美丽新世界

 汤姆.彼得斯（Tom Peters）在他的书《重新想象》中引用了戴维.温博格的《小块松散组合》书中的话来描述互联网世界的无限可能性：

"假设网络是我们将要去居住的一个新世界。我们就像早期的欧洲殖民者一样，住在森林上面。我们不知道我们在哪里，不知道我们该做些什么，不知道我们需要的是登山服，或是沙漠装备，还是小船，还是说我们需要所有的设备。殖民者虽然不知道新世界的地理状况如何，但是他们清楚地知道那里肯定会是某一种地形。但是在互联网世界里，没有距离，没有自然现象，同时也没有行为准则和权利划分。在互联网世界里，没有常识，但不同寻常的东西却还没有形成。"

这段话也许可以作为展望2005年的互联网时的注脚。horse在表达创建自己的互联网时抒发了他的快乐，我也深有同感，我们每个人作为个体，不再是互联网中的潜水者和旁观者，每个人都可以通过互联网来表达，来协作，进而提高社会整体的知识水平和运转的效率，我们的目光不再拘泥以往的所谓“门户”网站，我们的心胸可以更宽广，我们的视野也可以更开阔，我们每个人都可以成为知识的生产和传播者，分享知识和快乐。这些不只是美好的愿景，从blog、wiki开始拉开序幕，到今年的del.icio.us、flickr、gmail、skype、firefox的流行，互联网已经开始舒展画卷，向我们展示一个崭新的美丽新世界。而更令人兴奋的是，我们每个人都可以成为这个美丽新世界中的一员，在欣赏美景的同时，也成为美景的一部分。

面向未来，唯有深深地呼吸，自由展开想象的翅膀，尽情地去拥抱这个美丽新世界！

火狐的里程碑

今日Firefox 1.0正式发布，成为Firefox发展历史上新的里程碑。Firefox迈着轻盈的步伐向我们走来，给死气沉沉的浏览器市场带来一股清新的空气。众多志愿者和爱好者开发的种类繁多的浏览器插件更使得浏览器的功能得到空前的丰富。Firefox 、blog、wiki等新的软件的出现，正将我们引入一个新的互联网发展时期（web 2.0），一个从单纯的网页浏览逐步转向同时注重读和写（read and write）功能的双向的互联网，一个更加开发的、鼓励贡献、分享和相互连接的网络空间正在形成。del.icio.us和flickr都是绝佳的佐证和注解。

讲故事 出程序

Isaac一直是一个讲故事的高手，前两天还专门写了Blogger babble来庆祝自己的blog两岁了,我记得他以前还写过我喜欢“全文肉丝”来讨论SharpReader软件。今天聊天时他还说道“讲故事”是很好的教育手段，最好今后能够“讲故事 出程序”，果真如此，那可要好好锻炼一下讲故事的本领了。

其实“讲故事”历来是很好的教育方式，流传下来的那么多寓言故事就是很好的例证。在实践社区(CoP)的三要素(领域、社团、实践)的实践环节，也很推崇“讲故事”的方式，因为大家坐在一起“讲故事”，可以很好地传递隐形知识，在轻松愉快的心情下印象和理解会更深刻。对了，最早还有Joi的Ivan's adventures in weblog space 通过“讲故事”的形式很好的介绍了blogging所使用的技术，都是非常典型的好例子。

Skype 1.0

7月27日Skype发布1.0版本，最明显的升级就是增加了文件传输功能，Isaac已经试用了一下，希望能够代替MSN的文件传输，那样聊天的时候就更方便了。值得注意的是Skype还提供Linux版本（Skype for Linux）和掌上电脑版本（ Skype for Pocket PC ），使他的用户层面更加广泛，并且使用起来更方便。

广受瞩目的Skype落地服务，看来后端的服务也不错，徐子涵做了Skypeout的测试，账单很快就出来了，看来Skype真是有备而来。  

MIT的开放演讲录相

今天收到MIT WORLD发来的邮件通告，又有两个新的演讲录相上线，一个是Bill Gates的Software Breakthroughs: Solving the Toughest Problems in Computer Science ，另一个是Anne H. Margulies的The OpenCourseWare Initiative: A New Model for Sharing，讲关于MIT的开放课程OpenCourseWare ,都是很不错的材料。最早是从邹景平老师的blog（柔韧的原乡）里知道MIT WORLD的，能够在线收看许多名师在MIT的公开演讲录相真是另人兴奋，这也是继MIT的开放课程OpenCourseWare 后的又一个开放的亮点。知识的价值不在于封闭，而在于开放，在开放中体现知识的价值，在开放中累积更多的智慧。

对了，MIT WORLD也有“肉丝（rss）”可以订阅;-)

新的互联网服务

注意到两件事情：一是isaac提到的skype落地的服务，skype效果真是不错，曾试过最多5个人一起通话，声音非常清晰，在26号的研讨会上owen的声音就是通过skype来传入会场的，甚至比xiuli和huanghq的声音还清楚。所以，skype提供落地的服务更是很多人所期盼的，所谓落地服务，就是可以通过网络来拨打传统的地面移动电话和固定电话。在skype的最新版的程序中你会发现一个拨号盘，正是行使这个功能的。根据skype落地服务的列表，可以用skype拨打中国移动的手机，费用是0.012欧元/分钟。

第二件事情就是intel的WiMax标准已经在电子电气工程师协会(IEEE)获得通过，使WiMax成为最新的无线宽带接入的标准，据称，该技术能够在50公里范围内借助无线塔台进行数据传输，速率高达每秒75MB，并能覆盖半径达1.6公里的范围，很适合于发展中国家和边远地区部署宽带。未来无线宽带接入的趋势不容质疑，这也是WiMax广受瞩目的原因。

这两件事情也许都会对互联网和通信服务有深远的影响，会对传统的电信运营架构造成冲击。科技创新的每一个进步，都会提供新的“蛙跳点”，谁能更快地捕捉到这些机会，谁就能更快地超越对手。

以打字的速度搜索

Jay Cross在他的BLOG中提到了X1,这是一个被称为"local google"的本地桌面搜索引擎,可以快速搜索和查看本地硬盘中的信息。树形的文件结构在提供方便的同时，有时也会成为信息提取的障碍。试用了一下，的确不错，一个是搜索的速度，一个是对各种格式的文件的快速查看能力。这种松散耦合的能力打破了人为的信息结构，让不同层面的信息浮现到一个平面来，然后再搜索和聚合。想一下自己硬盘中无数的文件就让人头疼，这下可以来进行新的挖掘了。

星空中的火狐

开始翻译

昨天从Free Culture 协作翻译项目认领了一个章节：CHAPTER FOUR:“Pirates”（第四章：盗版者），开始真正参与翻译工作。这是真正以社会性软件工具(wiki)进行的实践社区（CoP）的活动，也是对“ Learning By Doing ”的很好的实践。其间的体验和经验对于我们研究社会性软件、社区学习、分布式协作等等都会大有益处。

翻译流程如下：
1.通读全文（已完成）
2.开始粗译，即按照字面意思开始直译，先不考虑遣词造句（已完成约二分之一）
3.咬文嚼字阶段。
    1）斟酌字、词、短语的选择，注意上下文的连贯。
    2）查找版权方面的相关资料，注意相关术语的使用。
    3）查找原文NOTES中的资料，力求翻译的更准确。
4.形成初稿，注意语句的通畅。
5.提交译文，征询修订意见。

YAHOO单干

尽管GOOGLE是2003年的第一品牌，但不买帐的人可是大有人在。Yahoo在去年购买了Inktomi的搜索引擎和Overture的搜索广告后，现在终于甩开GOOGLE决心自己单干了，其主页上的搜索结果已经更换(参见新闻：Yahoo dumps Google search technology)。对于炙手可热的RSS资源，Yahoo自然不会放过，注意下面两个图，在他搜索的结果中对于有RSS信息的站点增加了“View as XML”和“Add to my Yahoo”的链接，后者就会将其添加到“My yahoo”中，图二展示了“My yahoo”中“RSS Headlines”的截图，实际就是一个RSS聚合器。这样看来，以后在Yahoo搜索中出现RSS的搜索引擎就一点儿也不奇怪了。据Search Engine Watch的介绍,Yahoo将其丰富的处理垃圾邮件的经验也用到了网页的分拣上，而且其检索的全文本网页大小的上限为500K，而GOOGLE为101K。

 
感叹“即生瑜，何生亮”大有人在，MSN搜索(beta)据称已经将新的搜索引擎扩展到了南美和亚洲，观察MSN香港和MSN台湾确实如此，不过MSN中文首页的搜索还未更新，依然使用3721的搜索引擎。

最新消息： Google在日前宣布，它所收集的内容超过了60亿项

分形网

看到由Mark Newman收集的Gallery of network images，联想到了Tim Berners-Lee接受Christopher Lydon的访谈时谈到的分形和分形网（fractal web），文中说道：

    

“...We live in a fractal world, he kept saying, meaning a world of many levels of structure, where the shapes of mountains often resemble the shapes of sand grains at a different scale; or giant clouds replicate tiny puffs of steam, or human communities at the village level tell you about affinities and tensions at a global level.  One of his most compelling digressions was the thought that we should organize our days accordingly.  We should live some part of our lives in each of the human orders of magnitude: from the family unit of six to the global population of six billion.  Spend a few moments of the day with a consciousness of our individuality, then our closest family circle, our 60-member squad, platoon or company, our 600-member church, our 6000-citizen village in a 60,000-citizen city, in a 600,000 metropolitan area in a 6-million member state; then: our 60-million nation on a 600-million continent, and on to our full species extension. 

     At each of those levels, and others in-between, we human beings have a distinctive place in a different structure.  Perhaps the main message from Tim Berners-Lee at this moment of the Web's further emergence is simply this: that it serves the conversation at each and every level of a fractal society and a fractal universe.  ...What's great is to see this diversity of what's coming out of it.  And the diversity does not seem to be slowing down in any way."

Leander Kahney在WIRED上的文章Social Nets Not Making Friends对利用social nets进行交友提出了置疑，他说道:
“Perhaps it was inevitable. A backlash is under way against social networking services like Friendster, as more and more companies crowd to join the latest hot Internet trend. Sick of invitations to join networking services, and the constant nagging to validate friends or acquaintances, some people are turning against the ever-growing social networking services... ”

那种打着social nets的旗号单纯为了交友而交友的网络，那种通过A个朋友认识了XYZ个朋友的网络，到底实际意义有多大呢？我更喜欢通过SS自然浮现出来的社会化网络，比如weblog，比如http://del.icio.us/，他们都有一些共同的特点，“small－smart－social”，你沉浸其中，同时也会受到浸润，当你通过某种社会化的渠道关注某些人，然后逐渐也被他们所关注，一个社会化的网络就悄悄地、自然地浮现出来。这种社会化的渠道可以是weblog，也可以是社会化书签del.icio.us，还可以是其他许多方式。
